Ebay is one the biggest online market places. With all their consumer data, where else would I go to do my market research. The first step in any good marketing plan is to find a HUNGRY market. Let’s face it, you could have the greatest produce or service, but if no one wants to buy it what good is it.

Ebay Pluse tracks the buying habits of thousands of transactions everyday. It gives you the most popular topics and items searched for on Ebay.

For example the most popular searches:
1. wii
2. cricut cartridge
3. iphone
4. ipod touch
5. ipod
6. coach
7. xbox 360
8. wii games
9. laptop
10. ps3

What does this list tells us is? There is a lot traffic for these items. So, if we could develop an affiliate relationship with a company like Amazon ,for example, you could develop commission on these types of products.

But, we can also go deeper with Ebay Pluse. You can use the category option to go deeper into different niche markets.

For Example:
Electronics> GPS Navigation > Tracking Devices
Would yield the following results:

1. gps
2. garmin gps
3. garmin
4. dog tracking system
5. gps navigation
6. spot
7. hand held gps
8. usb gps
9. handheld gps
10. spy camera

Now, we are getting a little more targeted. We could easily develop a strong keyword lists on these words. With a little work you could find different markets like “Cheating on Spouse” “Dog Training” “Spying” “Hunting” “travel and Hiking”

I would take this information and find the top selling products and/or web site for each. Then I would develop keywords with Google’s External Keyword Tool. With my keywords I would run a quick PPC campaign to find which keywords convert the best.
